Filantropia Ortodoxa Sibiu Association together with the HEKS/EPER Foundation offers psychological and career counselling services to vulnerable and Roma students in Sibiu, within the “From Education to Decent Work, Sibiu county” project.
One of the project’s objectives is to reduce early school leaving in rural areas, especially among girls from vulnerable groups. The project started in 2021 and will end in 2024.
In addition to the weekly counselling sessions, role-play, self-knowledge and activities on how to relate to others are organized.
Students also have the opportunity to interact directly with successful people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
A first activity of this kind took place last week in Săcel Primary School, as well as in schools from Gura Râului and Cristian. The counsellor for these meetings was Elena Muțiu, who spoke to the girls about prejudices and stereotypes in their own language, using stories and proverbs.
“The students reacted very well, we got to know each other and talked ‘girl-to-girl’ about success, about the fact that anyone can achieve their dreams as long as they work/learn constantly”, Elena Mutiu said.
The “From Education to Decent Work, Sibiu county” project will give teachers from Sibiu the opportunity to attend a free course accredited by the Ministry of National Education in the field of career counselling and orientation.
