The conference presenting the results of the “Labour-market inclusion for disadvantaged young adults in Romania” project was organized on the 24th of November 2022 in Reghin, Mures county.
The project was implemented for three years (2020-2022) and aimed to increase access to decent work for young adults from vulnerable backgrounds, including those from Roma communities.
The project activities aimed the continuation of studies for secondary school students, the transition to the first job as well as a high retention rate for professional or technical school graduates.
The factors contributing to the project’s success were the combination of group and individual counselling for both secondary school and vocational school students; the use of the Cognitrom Career Planner (CCP) platform; the organisation of visits to companies; the direct cooperation with schools and companies.
During the 3 project years:
– 994 secondary school students from Mures and Covasna counties received career counselling and orientation services;
– the transition rate from the 8th to 9th grade increased from 77.14% in 2018-2019 to 96.78% in the last project year;
– 1108 professional and technical school students from Mures and Covasna counties were informed and counseled;
– out of a total of 128 employed graduates, 60 were counseled and mediated through the project and 68 graduate students were counseled through the project and employed on their own;
– study on the career counselling system realized: includes a research on the existing legislation in the field of school counselling; a research on the actual situation in the field (with focus on Mures, Covasna and Sibiu counties) and a set of recommendations on career counselling activity;
– camps for students: 154 secondary school students and 78 professional school students;
– Trainings for teachers, psychologists, school counsellors, headmasters from collaborating schools: 86 participants;
– tutoring and snack/hot lunch: 250 pupils in school year 2021-2022 and 335 pupils in school year 2022-2023;
– entrepreneurship educational programme in Covasna County: 9 participants;
– local working group: collaboration between secondary schools – vocational schools – companies.
The most appreciated activities and/or proposed for the future by the students were visits to companies and to other schools, excursions, camps, extracurricular activities: competitions, competitions, competitions between schools, group cohesion activities; counselling meetings including parents counselling; financial education topics; peer support: inviting 9th grade students to group counselling meetings with 8th grade students, respectively employed graduates to group counselling meetings with vocational school students.
