Job Announcement: Community Facilitator, Humanitarian Aid, Romania, Full-Time
We are looking for a Full-Time (8 hours) Community Facilitator.
The ideal candidate:
Are you highly motivated, dynamic, and communicative? Do you have a deep sense of helping vulnerable people? Are you persistent and well organized? Do you know the English language very well? We are looking for a colleague for a time-limited project (6 months, with the possibility of extension).

What we look for in a successful candidate:
- Excellent spoken and written English, as well as Romanian.
- Ukrainian language is a plus.
- A university degree.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, ability to manage work independently but also as part of a team, diplomacy, time managements skills, conflict resolution skills, organizational skills, great communication skills. Tolerance in the workplace, transparency and trustworthiness, mental stability & emotional balance, attitude-behavior consistency and resistance to effort and stress.
- Previous work or volunteer work in an NGO is a great advantage.
- Availability to travel for work as often as needed.
- Clean driving license.
Job description:
The community facilitator acts as a bridge between the facilitating agency (HEKS/EPER Romania) and the survivor communities who develop development initiatives.
As a facilitator for community engagement your role is to get Ukrainian people in local communities in Romania to take responsibility and take the lead on different tasks that will result in collaborative efforts to increase the scale, impact and momentum of crisis-affected people’s own collective initiatives to help each other.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Help develop the survivor and community-led responses plan together with HEKS/EPER Romania (vision, criteria for the selection of the groups).
- Find voluntary groups already helping their community.
- Encourage, facilitate, and connect groups to develop their ideas, by promoting a strengths-based strategy.
- Help groups access the resources they need to implement their initiatives (facilitate applications to microgrants).
- Offer support to HEKS/EPER Romania to organize microgrants selection processes.
- Identify locally sensitive mechanisms of “do less harm”, to avoid misuse of funds, elite-capture, exclusion, community tensions, external security risks.
- Facilitate experiential learning: help community groups reflect on, use & share the lessons learnt from their actions.
- Facilitate new connections for collaboration and experience sharing between groups and opportunities for mentoring.
- Train the community volunteers on how to enhance survivor initiatives.
- Keep HEKS/EPER Romania updated on how the initiatives go.
- Help with writing reports on the community initiatives.
- Be present on the field, where the communities are, to monitor their initiatives.
