Earlier this week, Popovici Adela, Project Manager at HEKS/EPER Romania, spoke on TVR Cluj about the support provided to Ukrainians in Romania and how our response has evolved over the past four years.
Together with Rareș Călugăr, President of Asociația Phoneo, Adela emphasized the importance of long-term partnerships, community-led microgrants, and continuously adapting our interventions to real needs on the ground.
While the initial phase focused on urgent needs, today our priorities include:
✔ sustainable labour market integration
✔ financial education
✔ emotional wellbeing
✔ recognising and valuing the skills and diversity the Ukrainian community brings.
A key highlight was the IMMERSED project, which builds on lessons learned from programmes implemented in Romania, Poland, Slovakia and Italy. It promotes an integrated approach, where emotional support, social inclusion and professional development reinforce one another.
One thing is clear: solutions are most effective when they are built with the community, not just for the community.
