  • The “Educational support for children from vulnerable groups in Romania. Steps towards sustainability” project was finalised. The After School Programme continues in Covasna County, supported by the local authorities and community.

    Diakonia Sf. Gheorghe Christian Foundation has been running After School programmes in Covasna County for over 10 years, and since 2015 with the financial support of HEKS/EPER Switzerland Foundation.

    In the last school year supported under the project, 2022-2023, 519 students from 13 localities participated in the After School programme.

    Another aim of the project was to ensure the sustainability of the After School programme for children from vulnerable groups, at county or national level. Local authorities in Covasna county have been involved from the beginning, financially supporting the programme. Local co-financing has progressively increased over time, from 10% to 87.5% in the school year 2022-2023.

    In 2023-2024 school year, the After School programme is organised in 13 localities from Covasna county (Sfântu Gheorghe, Dalnic, Brateș, Arcuș, Ghelința, Târgu Secuiesc, Chichiș, Poian, Ozun, Ghidfalău, Zagon, Moacșa, Baraolt), for 535 children. The continuation of the After School programme after the end of the project would not have been possible without the involvement of all local actors:

    • The programme is 100% financed with the support of the local authorities and community, with the following contributing to its financing: Covasna County Council, the local councils, the parents of the children involved in the programme and the local community (companies and individuals who responded positively to the fundraising actions organised by Diakonia Foundation);
    • Covasna School Inspectorate and the schools from the 13 localities provide support in organising the programme every school year;
    • Diakonia Christian Foundation coordinates the organisation of the programme and carries out fundraising actions for its co-funding.
